Abstract

In a context in which the pragmatic and referential nature of genuine anthroponyms is so often defended by many postulates, our study starts from a hypothesis which defends the idea that anthroponyms, be it from real life or from imaginary life, do have a meaning. This meaningfulness will be even more stressed in the case of literary fiction, where meaning is determined by the author’s intentions. In this paper, we will study the problems posed by the difficulty to convey anthroponomical values in dramatic works using genuine translations - into Spanish - of the second names of several characters in Molière’s plays.
