This article examines the metaphorical language of Pope Francis by analyzing a broad constellation of recurrent metaphors in Italian texts and their Romanian translations. Expressions such as “outgoing Church”, “culture of waste”, “non-citizens”, “half-citizens”, “urban leftovers”, “shepherds with the smell of the sheep”, “museum Christians”, “armchair Christians”, “anesthetized Christians”, “a piecemeal Third World War”, “choreographers of the dance of life”, “administrators of fears” versus “entrepreneurs of dreams”, money as “the devil’s dung”, the Church as a “field hospital” and “globalization of Indifference” are interpreted not as isolated rhetorical figures but as components of a coherent conceptual system. Drawing on the theoretical framework of conceptual metaphor (Lakoff & Johnson) and critical metaphor analysis in public discourse (Charteris-Black), the study shows how these images structure a dynamic ethical and social vision oriented toward action, critique of exclusion and pastoral renewal. Particular attention is devoted to translation strategies in the Romanian versions, highlighting the role of controlled metaphorical calque in preserving conceptual domains, axiological values and pragmatic force. Translation thus emerges as a form of conceptual and cultural mediation essential to the translinguistic circulation of papal discourse.

This study investigates whether the poetic structure of terza rima, often considered a Dantesque invention, has been preserved in French translations of the Divine Comedy from the fifteenth century to the present. The analysis begins with the characteristics of terza rima in Dante's work and examines its varied historical reception, particularly the debates in the late twentieth century regarding translations into free verse and unrhymed verse. Versification prompts questions about the poetic function of the message and necessitates reflection on paronomasia and rhythm in translation. The study reviews the perspectives of Roman Jakobson, Henri Meschonnic, André Pézard, Jacqueline Risset, and Umberto Eco, among others. It then analyzes the translations by Kolja Mićević (1996-2017) and Danièle Robert (2016-2021), who have favored terza rima versification despite prevailing trends. The feasibility of translation is shown to depend on the dominant poetic conception within specific cultural contexts, and the translation process is closely linked to the translator's creativity. Recreating the original or a similar textual function in the target language is a complex and challenging endeavor; creative transpositions result from imaginative translations that challenge the notion of poetic untranslatability.

Employing sociocultural, intercultural, and intersectional perspectives, the study explores the historical development of language policies and their relationship with translation practices in multilingual contexts. A theoretical framework is introduced to highlight linguistic and cultural asymmetries, positioning translation as both a political act and an instrument of social justice within Spain’s postnational and plurinational context.

These changes, in turn, alter the translator’s role, competences, and skills. The model develops interpersonal and transversal competences, the use of various CAT tools and localization techniques for translating non-literary texts. It also supports the development of intercultural competence, which is essential for translators in today’s globalized world. Finally, it points to a balanced relationship between the translator as a human being and AI. The model is a balance between curriculum content and organization on the one hand, and other players in the translation market on the other.

This article explores the challenges and strategies involved in translating Kim Thúy’s novel em into Croatian. A work marked by heterolingualism and a strong cultural charge, em mobilizes several languages and cultural references, raising fundamental questions about the transposition of linguistic and cultural elements in translation. The study is based on a research-creation approach that combines theoretical analysis and reflection on translation practice. The analysis highlights the tensions between domestication and foreignization in literary translation, underscoring the importance of preserving the source text's otherness. The choice to retain numerous Vietnamese terms, anglicisms and cultural references is intended to respect the novel’s multilingual and intercultural dimension. The results underline that the translation of em into Croatian favors a sourciste approach, grounded in Paul Ricœur’s concept of linguistic hospitality.

After advocating for a culturally informed hermeneutic approach to translation of this rich and award-winning oeuvre, which has significantly influenced both Francophone and Arabophone readerships, we proceed to a series of illustrative examples accompanied by critical commentary. Drawing on our perspective as semi-professional translators, we aim to foreground the difficulties, hesitations, and challenges inherent in the practice of (inter)cultural mediation through literary translation.

I have tried to examine how the transition from Shakespearian English to the Neapolitan language used by Eduardo (Neapolitan of the 17th century) took place through the analysis of a few details of certain elements, essaying the transformation that occurred through the centuries and the contaminations due to the various foreign dominations. I constantly compared the English text with the Neapolitan one because I had not found any similar works to compare my research. The result is that the verse’s rhythm and the words’ meaning are preserved, as well as the inner meaning of the single, expertly translated words. Sometimes, this result is reinforced by the words’ musicality and the sentence’s rhythm, which are enriched by idiomatic expressions that add power to the thought in the Neapolitan dialect.
