Correlations and differences in translation theory and practice between poetics and hermeneutics

Abstract

Starting with a brief introduction to the concept of culture, the contribution will focus on the analysis of culturems and on two contemporary literary phenomena, born-translated novels and non-translation studies, which again question the theory of translation as intercultural communication. Through reflections on the relationship between translation and interpretation in Umberto Eco and between translation and hermeneutics, we will arrive at a conception of translation as poetics according to Emilio Mattioli’s theorisation.
