Dépasser la frontière. La traduction des realia dans la version française de România pitorească d’Alexandru Vlahuță

This paper deals with the translation of cultural references in Alexandru Vlahuță’s book România pitorească. Indeed, this work is full of culture-specific items that require special attention and appropriate translation strategies to preserve all the linguistic savour of the source text. This translation, carried out by Mărgărita Miller- Verghy – one the few Romanian women translators –, will be analysed in order to study the difficulties raised by the translation of those realia and the solutions provided. In the same way, we will show to what extent the cultural boundaries are permeable.
