Seniors in the Economy and Society 5.0 Cover

Abstract

The aim of the article is to assess the possibilities of active participation of the 65+ generation in the Economy and Society 5.0. The time frame of the analysis covers the year 2022, and the spatial scope includes the countries of the European Union. The sources of data for the analysis were the literature on the subject and Eurostat databases. The presentation of the researched issues employed literature analysis, descriptive statistics, and the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution method. The authors’ unique contribution to the research is the combination of two seemingly difficult to connect and relatively rarely combined areas of analysis: seniors – stereotypically associated with conservatism, low activity in various fields, and difficulties in functioning in a world of progress, and the Economy and Society 5.0 – identified with modernity and progress in various fields. As the analysis shows, the group of countries with very favourable conditions for seniors to face the challenges of the Economy and Society 5.0 included five countries, with Finland achieving the highest indicator value. On the other hand, four countries had very poor conditions, with Bulgaria ranking last. There is significant diversity among the senior populations in the EU countries in terms of their financial situation, activity in the digital realm, and quality of life.
