Aims and scope

The Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association (MEIEA) is an international nonprofit organization established in 1979. It serves as a bridge connecting educators with leaders from the music and entertainment industries. MEIEA's primary mission is to facilitate an exchange of information between educators and industry practitioners to prepare students for careers in these sectors.

To promote professional practical knowledge and effective strategies in education, MEIEA endeavors to:

  • Provide resources for exchanging information and knowledge about all facets of the music and entertainment industries;
  • Foster scholarly research related to both the industries themselves and educational practices within these fields;
  • Assist institutions in developing programs and curricula focused on the music and entertainment industries;
  • Facilitate interaction between industry professionals and educational institutions;
  • Promote student interests in the music and entertainment industries.

A key tool in achieving these objectives is The Journal of the Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association (the MEIEA Journal). This refereed scholarly publication serves as a comprehensive resource for those engaged in or interested in the music and entertainment sectors. The MEIEA Journal aims to enhance understanding of the industry by promoting best practices in research and education. It publishes high-quality, original scholarship on topics including curriculum design, pedagogy, technological innovation, intellectual property, industry-specific legislation, arts administration, industry analysis, and historical perspectives. In light of the rapid technological innovations at the intersection of marketing and artistic expression, the MEIEA Journal encourages novel approaches to deepen understanding of the field. Published annually, the MEIEA Journal reaches MEIEA members, universities, libraries, and individuals involved in music and entertainment industry education. Furthermore, it supports the professional development of authors and educators in higher education.
