For reviewers
Thank you for agreeing to review this manuscript for the Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association (MEIEA) Journal. Below are some questions for you to consider as you write your report. You do not need to follow the questions exactly, but they should give you a sense of the issues we’d like you to address in your comments. Please submit your report via Editorial Manager.
The main evaluation categories are as expected: quality of research, strength of argument and its support, use of primary and secondary sources, interest, and appropriateness for a MEIEA Journal audience (broadly conceived).
- What is the primary contribution and/or argument of the proposed manuscript? What is the importance of this work in terms of original content or perspective?
- Would you say that the scholarship that went into the work is (a) superior? (b) adequate (c) inadequate? Does it cover all the topics it should?
- How does this work relate to literature already published? Do the citations represent a range of scholarship in the field, including, for example, authors from marginalized groups? (Be sure to check some, if not all, the citations, especially online sources.)
- What are the strengths and weaknesses of this work?
- Is the manuscript written in a clear, readable style? Is its organization suitable and effective? Does it contain unnecessary repetition? Should it be cut or expanded, or is it about the right length? For example, there is no need to get bogged down into mechanical and grammatical issues throughout the paper. In other words, it may be sufficient to say that the author should be aware of proper capitalization, spelling punctuation, run-on sentences, etc., and simply provide two or three examples of where this is happening and how they may correct it.
- If the manuscript includes images, do they effectively support the author’s argument?
- In your opinion, who is the primary audience for this work? Who is the secondary audience?
Style: Articles that are not in Chicago style do not need to be reformatted or corrected by the reviewer. A simple indication that the formatting is incorrect or incompatible will suffice.
Upon receiving your assignment, reviewers should aim for reading one to two articles a week. It is recommended to take notes as you read then go back and use those notes to formulate your responses to the authors. Reviewers will be assigned a deadline for submission.
