Herr refuta muchas concepciones erróneas acerca de la creación del Estado chileno al dar prominencia a la Araucanía en su construcción y conectarlo con fuentes de diversas áreas de la historia americana. Herr, de una manera muy novedosa, expande la historiografía sobre la agencia de los mapuches (y los bandidos), al darles un rol protagónico en la conformación de la República de Chile.
Herr refutes many misconceptions about the creation of the Chilean state by giving prominence to the Araucanía in its construction and connecting it to sources from diverse areas of American history. Herr, in a very novel way, expands the historiography on the agency of the Mapuche (and the bandits), by giving them a leading role in the formation of the Republic of Chile.
