Abstract

The research aims to discuss how AI transforms teaching and how future teachers see the importance of responsible use of AI tools in education. Digitally competent teachers have to use AI responsibly, foster learners’ responsible use of AI, and integrate AI tools focusing on course aims and other didactical characteristics. Focus group discussions were selected as a qualitative research method for data collection. Future teachers were selected as a target group for the research. Research results show that future teachers are sceptical about how teachers use technologies and AI for teaching today. Still, they see the need for teacher digital competence development to use AI responsibly. They suggest teachers start with small steps, testing the tools and learning about them, but neither trust them much nor rely heavily on them to preserve the human touch in teaching.
