Archaeozoology of the Bronze Age Herders: An Open Zooarchaeological Dataset from the South Urals and Northern Kazakhstan
Abstract
This article presents archaeozoological data from settlements and several Bronze Age burial complexes in the Southern Urals and Northern Kazakhstan. The dataset consists of primary and secondary archaeozoological data obtained by processing animal bones from sites dating back to various periods of the Bronze Age. The dataset includes several blocks of information: species composition, fragmentation of bones, bone surface modifications (BSM), bone measurements, pathological and age-related changes in bones, age data based on the degree of wear of the chewing surface, the state of the epiphyses and X-rays. The dataset can be used by archaeologists and archaeozoologists interested in the history of various aspects of Bronze Age pastoralism. Any data can be utilized by any specialist, both for comparative analysis and for independent research. One of the main goals of this dataset is to enable the use of its data for regional-level studies and comparative analysis.
