Data from Public Engagement with Urban Heritage and Contemporary Architecture: The Case of Open House Thessaloniki, Greece
Abstract
This data paper describes the dataset compiled and analysed for the research project ‘Public Engagement with Urban Heritage and Contemporary Architecture: The Case of Open House Thessaloniki, Greece’. The dataset includes three sets of data: first, visitation numbers for each site included in the Open House Thessaloniki Open Tours event from 2016 until 2025; second, anonymised demographic data of Open House Thessaloniki participants for every site included in Open Tours in 2024 and 2025; and third, the transcript of an interview with a member of the organising committee. Data was collected by Open House Greece, the civic non-profit organisation behind Open House Thessaloniki, and by the researcher. The datasets were used to investigate public engagement with urban heritage and contemporary architecture in Thessaloniki based on a chronological grouping of sites included in Open Tours. Further research could determine types of urban heritage and contemporary architecture participants engage with (e.g. private, public, religious, professional, educational, sport, residential etc.) and could be of interest to urban planners, architects, conservators, archaeologists and heritage managers.
