
Consumer Perception Towards Notebook Computers Over Desktop Computers in Sri Lankan Context
Abstract
The paper investigates the perceptual difference of Sri Lankan consumers towards notebook computers over desktop computers. The study follows two steps. First, an exploratory study using secondary sources where a literature review investigates variables that influence the perception towards buying a notebook computer over a desktop computer. Subsequently, a field survey underwent through a self-administered questionnaire to gather customers’ perceptions in Colombo district of Sri Lanka. It covers Sri Lankan consumers of different ages, income levels, job statuses, and education levels with their opinion regarding relative advantage, complexity, compatibility, price, perceived risk, and demographic influence of notebook computers over desktop computers. Results of the study indicated that all categories of users perceive that laptop computers provide a higher advantage than desktop computers. Furthermore, consumers have a higher perception of notebook computers over desktop computers based on complexity, compatibility, and perceived risk, while it was revealed that gender has minimal impact on the perception of notebooks. Moreover, consumers with Higher education and higher occupation level have a higher perception of notebook computers over desktop computers.
