A Delphi – FMEA Framework for Assessing Information Quality in Engineering R&D
Abstract
Information quality is a critical factor in research and development (R&D) organizations, where it serves as a key resource for effective decision-making, management processes, innovation, and the generation of new knowledge. This article discusses the assessment of information quality within an R&D organization. The primary objective of this study is to identify key dimensions of information quality and to analyse their significance within a specific R&D environment. The research draws on established frameworks and approaches from Total Information Quality Management (TIQM), Six Sigma, and Information Management, while systematically defining the fundamental concepts related to information quality assessment. Attention is given to core quality dimensions, including accuracy, relevance, timeliness, completeness, and reliability, which are contextualized for application in R&D organizations. The empirical component focuses on methods for evaluating information quality and on identifying the main factors influencing its level in organizational practice. Based on these findings, the study proposes a set of recommendations aimed at enhancing information management processes, thereby improving the efficiency of research and development activities and supporting higher-quality decision-making.
