Abstract
Policy advice requires a robust and readily accessible data foundation—elements that are particularly difficult to secure during times of crisis. What is needed, therefore, are high-performance, permanently maintained data infrastructures that can be rapidly activated and utilised for scientific analysis in the event of a crisis. The SOEP data infrastructure is also set to improve; starting in 2028, a transformation process will begin with the aim of further developing the existing research data infrastructure to enable faster, more flexible, and thematically adaptable responses to societal crises. Among other measures, “quarterly representativeness” will be introduced, making it possible for the first time to conduct within-year analyses of societal developments.
