Abstract

This paper addresses the design of safe space using the example of the Swedish neighbourhood of Västra Hammen. As part of the in situ research, spatial solutions that support safety were analysed, and several criteria were selected (e.g., transport, spatial structure, urban composition, etc.) that have a positive impact on the residents’ sense of safety. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the results of the analyses and to present the Västra Hamnen neighbourhood as an example of a well-designed safe space for residents. The examples are illustrated by extensive photographic documentation made as a part of the study trip.
