The Quantitative Determination of Phenols in Tobacco Smoke / Die quantitative Bestimmung von Phenolen im Tabakrauch
By: D. Hoffmann and E. L. Wynder
Abstract
A method is described for the quantitative determination of individual phenols from the smoke of tobacco products. The method is primarily based upon separation of phenol concentrates by gas liquid chromatography into individual phenols and their quantitative determination by the use of an internal standard. Di-n-octyl sebacate is used as liquid phase, "Gas Chrom P'' serves es support. Helium is used as carrier gas. Best results are achieved at 180°C. The determination of phenols in cigarette smoke is described in detail.
