Compressive Strengths of Pavement Recycling Materials and New Approach for Cement Content Determination

Open Access
|Jun 2021

Abstract

This research investigated the compressive strengths of cement treated with three types of aggregates (lateritic soil; crushed rock-blended reclaimed asphalt pavement; and a mixture of crushed rock, reclaimed asphalt pavement and lateritic soil). The strength was evaluated through a series of unconfined compression tests in the laboratory. Then, the test results were analyzed using statistical analysis. The results and analysis indicated that the strength of the cement-treated coarse-grained materials was controlled by the plasticity index and the water to cement ratio. Base on the results and analysis, this research developed a new approach for cement content determination. In addition, the proposed method should be useful for determining the proper cement content, as it requires less time and a smaller number of tests by using only two trials. A practical method to evaluate the cement content is thoroughly explained and verified in this study.
