Abstract
The 2017 amendment to the Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction increased the availability of “medical marijuana” in Poland. The political ground had been prepared for this breakthrough for years. The evolution of views on the role of cannabis in medicine became visible in the work of the Sejm (Polish Parliament). Documents, such as transcripts of parliamentary sessions, are very valuable research material. The aim of this paper is to illustrate the changing approach to the Cannabis sativa plant in Polish political discourse over the years. Helpful materials were obtained using search engines available on the Sejm website. The analysis presents Polish debates on medical marijuana against the background of international changes in this area.
