Bridging Disciplinary and Experience Gaps to Advance Spatial Thinking and Geovisualisation in Higher Education
Abstract
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a geovisualisation and geocommunication module in higher education for enhancing spatial thinking, digital cartography, and user-experience (UX) design skills. The module, delivered in blended formats to students, lecturers, and professionals from various disciplines, combined quantitative and qualitative assessments. Results show notable gains in UX design and interactivity, particularly among participants with prior geospatial tool experience, though meaningful progress was also seen in novices. Differences across specialisations highlight stronger benefits for spatially oriented fields. The findings confirm the value of structured, hands-on geospatial training in fostering technical competence and effective communication of spatial information.
