Publishing ethics

Underlying data must be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are unacceptable.

The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if they have used the work of others, that this has been appropriately cited or quoted and permission has been obtained where necessary. Plagiarism is unacceptable. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently is unacceptable.

The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors are included on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication. Authors are expected to consider carefully the list and order of authors before submitting their manuscript and provide the definitive list of authors at the time of the original submission. Authors take collective responsibility for the work. Each individual author is accountable for ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Authorship and conflicts of interest

Authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could be viewed as inappropriately influencing (bias) their work.

Corrections and errors

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper if deemed necessary by the editor. If the editor or the publisher learn from a third party that a published work contains an error, it is the obligation of the author to cooperate with the editor, including providing evidence to the editor where requested.

The editorial policy of the Naše Gospodarstvo/Our Economy journal strictly follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Use of Generative AI tools

Authors must disclose any use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools in the preparation of the manuscript, including the tool name, version if available, and purpose of use. AI tools may not be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, citations, and legal/ethical compliance of the submitted work. AI-generated text, images, data, references, or analysis must be checked by the authors and must not infringe copyright, privacy, or confidentiality obligations.

Research Data Management

Naše gospodarstvo/Our Economy journal supports open access to research data.

About research data

Research data are data obtained through various research methods to understand, test, or confirm hypotheses and draw conclusions. They are generated or processed during the research process and may exist in multiple formats, such as notes, interviews, photographs, transcripts, numerical datasets, or software code. If research data are not stored in digital form, authors are encouraged to consider digitization to enable long-term preservation in data repositories. Data repositories provide secure storage and access to different types of data along with relevant documentation.

The open access to research data enhances transparency and verifiability of research results and increases their reuse potential in future studies. This also increases the value of already collected data. Data sharing can further support researchers’ professional development by increasing the visibility of their work and fostering collaboration with new research partners.

Policy on mandatory citation of research data

In accordance with the Decree on the implementation of scientific research activities in line with the principles of open science, the journal’s co-funder, the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency, requires the Our Economy journal to ensure open access to the research data underlying the article prior to publication. Research data must comply with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).

Exceptions to open access to research data

If research data cannot be fully shared due to legal, ethical, or other justified reasons, authors must provide an appropriate explanation. Such cases include the protection of personal data (see the EU General Data Protection Regulation), trade secrets, other commercially sensitive information, or security-related risks. The regulation follows the principle “as open as possible, as closed as necessary.”

Data deposit in an open repository may be waived, limited, or replaced by restricted access or a metadata-only description where research data cannot be shared due to legal, ethical, contractual, confidentiality, personal data protection, intellectual property, commercial sensitivity, or security reasons. In such cases, authors must include an appropriate Data Availability Statement explaining why the data are not deposited or why access is restricted. Where possible, authors should provide sufficient metadata to identify the data and describe the conditions under which access may be granted.

List of trusted repositories

Authors are required to deposit research data in trusted data repositories, archives, or centers that provide appropriate access conditions. The repositories recommended by the journal’s co-funder are listed here.

For international researchers, the journal recommends depositing research data in Zenodo, a widely used open-access repository that supports the long-term preservation and accessibility of research outputs.

When publishing research data, the use of Creative Commons licenses CC BY 4.0 (or equivalent) is recommended.

Citation of research data

Authors must appropriately cite all data sources in accordance with the repository’s guidelines and the journal’s citation style (e.g., APA Style). If the data have not been digitized or cannot be published due to legal restrictions, this must be clearly stated in the data availability statement. A link to the published research data (e.g., DOI) must be included in the article’s reference list.

Responsibilities of authors, editors, and reviewers

Research data must be made accessible to the public by the time the article is published. Data embargoes are only permitted in exceptional cases, which must be justified by appropriate conditions and explanations. It is the responsibility of the editor and reviewers to assess whether an article is based on research data and whether this data has been cited correctly. If deficiencies are identified, the author must revise the manuscript and cite the research data appropriately.
