Aims and scope
Journal of Mother and Child (JMC) is a peer-reviewed, diamond open access scientific journal devoted to the dissemination of both basic and applied research related to all aspects of maternal and child health. The primary mission of JMC is to provide an open, international platform for sharing innovative ideas, original findings, and comprehensive analyses that advance our understanding of the complex biological, clinical, psychological, and social factors influencing the well-being of mothers and their children. By bridging the gap between laboratory research and clinical practice, the journal aims to contribute to the continuous improvement of maternal, fetal, neonatal, and child health outcomes worldwide. JMC’s ambition is to foster an environment where researchers, clinicians, and public health experts can exchange interdisciplinary perspectives and collaborate across different fields of medical and life sciences. The journal particularly values contributions that combine elements of basic science and clinical application - studies that translate discoveries from the laboratory into meaningful clinical practices or policies. We at JMC strongly believe that translational medicine serves as the cornerstone of modern healthcare, enabling effective interdisciplinary cooperation that often results in significant scientific advancements and high-impact publications. To this end, JMC welcomes a wide variety of manuscript types, including original research papers, comprehensive reviews, editorials, short communications, and detailed case studies. The scope of the Journal of Mother and Child is intentionally broad and founded on a holistic approach to the patient. The journal addresses every dimension of maternal and child health, covering a wide range of medical specialties and life science disciplines. This includes (but is not limited to) studies on the origins and mechanisms of disease, advances in modern diagnostic methods, evidence-based therapeutic strategies, long-term health outcomes, nutritional and metabolic influences, psychological well-being, as well as ethical and social determinants of health. We recognize that maternal and child health is a lifelong continuum; therefore, our interest extends across all developmental stages - from the earliest moments of human life, including the prenatal and perinatal periods, through infancy, early childhood, adolescence, and into adulthood, with a special focus on maternal well-being. JMC also embraces the concept of systems medicine, which views the human body as a dynamic, interconnected network of biomolecular, physiological, and environmental interactions. This perspective allows us to better understand the multifactorial nature of diseases and to identify novel diagnostic and therapeutic pathways. Within this framework, the journal actively encourages submissions dealing with rare diseases, which often serve as valuable models for understanding the mechanisms of more common conditions, shedding light on fundamental biological processes and potential new treatment strategies. All manuscripts submitted to JMC must represent original research and should not have been published previously or be under consideration by another journal. To ensure the highest scientific and ethical standards, the Journal of Mother and Child employs a rigorous double-blind peer review process, in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous. This ensures impartiality and fairness in evaluating each submission. The editorial team oversees every stage of the review process, making final publication decisions based on the reviewers’ expert assessments, the scientific merit of the work, and its relevance to the journal’s scope. JMC is committed to maintaining a continuous and timely publication schedule. Since 2022, the journal has adopted a Volume Open publication model, which allows for the immediate online release of accepted articles as soon as they are finalized. This model ensures that new research findings are disseminated as quickly as possible to the global scientific community, maximizing their visibility and impact. Through these principles, the Journal of Mother and Child continues to serve as a trusted, accessible, and forward-thinking platform for advancing knowledge, improving clinical practice, and ultimately promoting the health and quality of life of mothers and children around the world. Our journal targets an international audience. JMC welcomes submissions from researchers and healthcare professionals around the world and publishes work addressing maternal and child health issues of global relevance. In fact, the vast majority of articles submitted and published (as original papers, reviews, and policy papers) come from outside Poland. Its scope encompasses diverse populations, healthcare systems, and interdisciplinary perspectives, promoting the international exchange of scientific knowledge and best practices aimed at improving the health and well-being of mothers and children globally, across diverse populations and healthcare settings. JMC maintains an international Advisory Board composed of experts from various regions, ensuring a broad global perspective in editorial decisions. In addition, the journal engages reviewers from foreign countries, which supports rigorous peer review and enhances the international relevance and scientific quality of published articles. JMC is indexed in MEDLINE/PUBMED, PubMed Central, Elsevier-Scopus, Elsevier-Embase, EBSCO, EBSCO – MEDLINE Ultimate, Europe-PMC, MNiSW, PBL (Polska Bibliografia Lekarska), Google Scholar, J-Gate, ExLibris, JournalTOCs.
