The International Review of Financial Consumers (IRFC) is an open-access academic journal that publishes peer-reviewed and invited articles on topics related to financial consumers. IRFC is published on behalf of the International Academy of Financial Consumers (IAFICO), established in 2014 in recognition of how digitalization, globalization, and liberalization have intensified challenges for consumers in financial markets. Financial instruments have become more complex and difficult to understand for the public, and frequent changes in regulations and business practices may create regulatory gaps or confusion for financial consumers. IRFC aims to encourage research that leads to a more efficient and equitable financial market, serving the interests of financial consumers and facilitating long-term financial development.

IRFC publishes studies on financial products and services, consumer financial behaviors, financial regulations and supervision, financial institutions, and financial culture, maintaining an emphasis on the consumer perspective. Submissions of theoretical and empirical original research, practitioner notes, cases, and reviews are welcome.

The IRFC Editorial Board invites scholars and practitioners researching a broad set of consumer finance issues to submit their work to the journal. The following topics are of particular interest:

  1. Laws and regulations designed to protect consumers in financial markets
  2. Consumers’ financial behaviors and financial wellbeing
  3. Consumers’ financial literacy and capability
  4. Business ethics and corporate social responsibility of financial institutions
  5. Market discipline in financial industries
  6. Interventions to improve consumers’ financial wellbeing
  7. Innovations in financial markets and financial services
  8. Case studies of best practices for financial services or their consumption
  9. Comparison of protections for financial consumers worldwide.
