Logainm Administrative Names

In this paper we describe the Logainm Administrative Names dataset which constitutes a snapshot of toponymic data from the Placenames Database of Ireland (Logainm) and which is deposited as a collection in the Digital Repository of Ireland. Logainm is an ever-evolving database used to manage and disseminate the official Irish-language administrative placenames of Ireland, as established by the Placenames Branch of the Government of Ireland in consultation with the Placenames Committee (formerly the Placenames Commission). The dataset includes the names, categories and locations of c. 68,000 provinces, counties, administrative counties, cities, baronies, metropolitan districts, borough districts, municipal districts, towns, civil parishes, electoral districts and townlands. It will be of use to researchers and administrators, as well as place-based product developers.
