Conceptual Metaphors for Jealousy in Latin: A Corpus-Based Dataset

Abstract

This dataset documents metaphorical expressions of jealousy in Latin, based on a corpus-driven analysis of 1324 occurrences of selected lexemes (e.g. invidia, livor) extracted from the Library of Latin Texts (Brepols). Building on the Conceptual Metaphor Theory, instances were manually classified and annotated, yielding 831 metaphorical uses organised by source domains. The dataset is stored in the Zenodo repository as a structured Excel file including linguistic, contextual, and bibliographic information. Developed within the LexeLat project and partially integrated into the Lexicon Translaticium Latinum, it supports research on metaphor, lexical semantics, and emotion, and is suitable for both qualitative and computational reuse.
