Abstract

Ron is chair of Deepness and Lives with Vascular Dementia Deepness is a not for profit that is run for people with dementia by people with dementia.

Co-production has become a buzzword in the realm of service delivery, focusing on the collaborative efforts between service providers, service users and other stakeholders.

This workshop "Coproduction: Myth, Fact, or Aspiration," delves into the framework that underpins coproduction , the workshop  probes whether co-production is merely a myth driven by idealistic rhetoric, a proven fact through successful implementations, or an aspirational goal.

Current coproduction models often presume a level playing field between participants, overlooking the practical challenges faced by marginalised communities.

The workshop has been designed to be very interactive and by the end of the workshop participants will have had the opportunity to redefine what coproduction should look like.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Design a practical framework for genuine co-production.
  • Identify and address co-production challenges.
  • Foster commitment to sustainable co-production.

Agenda (1 Hour):

Introduction (10 minutes)

  • Brief overview of co-production's potential in services.
  • Introduction to the workshop's goal: co-creating an enabling framework.

Understanding the Landscape (10 minutes)

  • Quick presentation on current co-production models and critiques.
  • Group discussion to identify key barriers and opportunities.

Collaborative Framework Design (20 minutes)

  • Brainstorming session: Essential elements for an effective framework.
  • Small group activity: Drafting framework sections focused on adaptability and inclusivity.

Framework Integration and Refinement (10 minutes)

  • Groups merge and refine their sections into a cohesive framework.
  • Rapid peer feedback and adjustments.

Commitment to Action (10 minutes)

  • Finalise the co-created framework and outline key implementation steps.
  • Participants share commitments to applying the framework in their contexts.

Workshop Materials:

  • Framework development templates.
  • Quick-reference handouts on co-production challenges and opportunities.

Expected Outcomes:

  • A collaboratively developed, practical framework for effective co-production.
  • Initial strategies for overcoming implementation barriers.
  • A network of practitioners, service users and others committed to advancing co-production.
