Abstract

The paper presents the hydrological characteristics of the ungauged Psarka River catchment (a tributary of the Świślina River), where the construction of the proposed ‘Bodzentyn–Hucisko’ reservoir in the Holy Cross Mountains is planned. The analysis was based on data from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management – National Research Institute (IMGW-PIB) for the Świślina River catchment (Rzepin gauging station, 1966–2024), which was adopted as the reference catchment. Average specific runoff, characteristic flows, environmental flows, and available flows were determined, and the reservoir filling time was estimated. Precipitation analysis was conducted using data from two meteorological stations (Bodzentyn and Suchedniów, 1961–2014), while climatic conditions were characterised using data from the Kielce-Suków synoptic station (1951–2025). The analysis indicates that the water resources of the Psarka River are sufficient to ensure the rapid filling of the proposed ‘Bodzentyn–Hucisko’ reservoir, with the filling time ranging from 59 to 146 days depending on the season, even under the most restrictive environmental flow criteria. However, the poor overall status of the Psarka River water body reported in 2024 is a cause for concern.
