The pandemic, which originated in China in December 2019, was declared a global pandemic in a very short period of time. As a result, normal human life has been disrupted, and psychological disorders have become widespread. The continued and expanding spread of such catastrophic conditions is directly influenced by environmental factors caused by human activities.
Buddhism is an environmental philosophy. Buddhism rejects any kind of environmental harm, whether it affects living or non-living entities. The Buddhist perspective emphasizes that by developing individual character, one can act in a way that benefits both the living and non-living environment. The applicability of Buddhist environmental philosophy is particularly significant in the context of current global catastrophic conditions. Not only does Buddhism help in managing any form of pandemic, but it also provides a way to overcome the mental paralysis resulting from such crises. By applying Buddhist environmental philosophy, one can achieve awareness and understanding of the environment, thus overcoming the challenges posed by these conditions.
