Abstract

This study examines the impact of digital detoxing practices on employee well-being among IT professionals in the Sri Lankan context. In the selected context of the increasing integration of digital technologies into the workplace, concerns have emerged regarding the adverse effects of excessive digital engagement on employees’ health and overall well-being. Accordingly, this research investigates the role of digital detoxing practices, where it defined as the deliberate reduction or temporary abstinence from digital technology use in enhancing employee well-being. Data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire distributed among IT professionals. The findings reveal a significant positive relationship between digital detoxing practices and employee well-being. Furthermore, regression analysis indicates that digital detoxing practices account for a substantial proportion of the variance in employee well-being. These results suggest that promoting and facilitating digital detoxing practices can serve as an effective organizational strategy to improve the well-being of IT professionals. The study contributes to the expanding literature on digital technology use and employee well-being, while underscoring the importance of integrating digital well-being initiatives within the contemporary workplace practices.
