Exploring the evolution of cinematic representations: A comprehensive analysis of gender dynamics in the aftermath of the #MeToo movement in Hollywood

Focusing on the intersection of social movements and media narratives, the study explores how the #MeToo movement, with its emphasis on empowering survivors and challenging systemic harassment, has influenced the portrayal of gender dynamics in cinematic storytelling employed by the public relations campaigns. By examining a diverse range of films associated with the movement, the research seeks to unravel the evolving patterns, themes, and nuances in cinematic representations. Furthermore, it explores how cinematic narratives contribute to reshaping societal perceptions, challenging stereotypes, and fostering a more inclusive and gender-equitable public discourse. By critically examining the cinematic language utilized in these campaigns, the research aims to uncover the ways in which the #MeToo movement has influenced storytelling techniques, character development, and overall narrative structures within the realm of public relations. This qualitative study employs content and thematic analysis, grounded in a constructivist research philosophy, to explore the impact of the #MeToo movement on gender representations in public relations campaigns through a diverse selection of nine films. The research involves a detailed examination of thematic relevance, production scale, and nuanced gender dynamics within each film, with findings revealing commonalities, differences, and trends in cinematic portrayals of gender within the context of the #MeToo movement. The findings of the research were the contributions of films to sexual harassment awareness, power imbalances, survivor empowerment, legal reforms, intersectionality, corporate accountability, social media activism, cultural shifts, mental health considerations, and prevention strategies. In conclusion, the findings highlight the pivotal role of cinematic narratives in shaping societal perspectives on gender dynamics and activism, underscoring the intricate challenges and opportunities within the #MeToo movement.
