Abstract
A simple theoretical model is used to analyse how a polar low can produce a severe sea condition. The predictions of the model are compared to data from records of polar lows that have passed in the proximity of the weather station A.M.I. (71.5°N, 19°E) during the period (1978–82), and wave records from the same location and period.
