Abstract
A method has been developed for using deep sea deposits as records of oceanic productivity and its changes. The sequence of sediments below the Equatorial Current system indicates a marked periodical change in productivity with time. This periodicity is assumed to correspond closely to the world-wide climatic changes during late Pliocene and Pleistocene. It is thought that the method offers possibilities for an accurate and detailed study of the history of the late Cenozoic climate. An explanation is given of the reaction of the Equatorial Counter Current to climatic changes.
