Abstract

This research offers a framework for how instructors can incorporate community-based writing projects into online, asynchronous classes to 1) meet student learning objectives in a professional writing course and 2) meet a nonprofit’s communication goals. To assess how the project and framework met both the students’ learning objectives and the community partner’s communication goals, anonymous, voluntary surveys were administered to both parties. The framework in this study provides a model for how faculty can incorporate reciprocal community partnerships into online, asynchronous writing courses.
