Subventionsabbau: Potential für den Strukturwandel in Deutschland
Abstract
This article examines the extent to which reducing subsidies can support economic adjustment processes and create fiscal headroom. It focuses on federal financial aid. A comparison of the official definition with an expanded definition is followed by an assessment of the aid’s level, composition, and dynamics, distinguishing between the portions that are economically justifiable and those that are not. The article concludes by outlining the arguments for a reduction, the reasons why this has not yet occurred, and the conditions necessary for success.
