Deutschland in der Standortdebatte – der Bundesländerindex Familienunternehmen

Abstract

The federal structure of the Federal Republic of Germany assigns the federal states an important independent role in economic and business location policy. The Bundesländerindex Familienunternehmen compares the business conditions across the federal states. Its aim is to contribute to federal transparency and encourage learning. The second calculation of the Bundesländerindex Familienunternehmen, following the first three years ago, reveals notable shifts: Saxony has overtaken Bavaria to take the top spot, Lower Saxony has improved significantly, whilst large western German states such as Baden-Württemberg and Hesse have fallen behind. The results of the Bundesländerindex Familienunternehmen suggest that the division of Germany is no longer systematically evident in the business location rankings. Western German states occupy the bottom positions.
