Abstract
Over the past four years, construction prices in Germany have risen significantly. At the same time, housing construction has shown a clear downward trend. Furthermore, Germany needs considerably more housing to meet demand. The high levels of production and orders received in the construction sector that prevailed before the COVID-19 pandemic appears to be over even after the pandemic subsided. This article provides an overview of the current market situation and examines potential factors influencing construction activity. The data research is based on the interactive data portal Dashboard Konjunktur (Economic Dashboard) of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany.
