Abstract
Democracy, education, taxes, pensions, climate protection, and national debt – political decisions in all areas shape the future. Not all decisions are in the best interest of young and future generations. How can intergenerational justice be ensured? What reforms are needed to achieve this? This Zeitgespräch discussion illustrates how equal opportunities can be created and explores what fosters the kind of overall economic prosperity that all generations can share. Specifically, it addresses the implementation of new decision-making rules in democracy, reforming inheritance tax, distributing additional years of life more fairly between the working and retirement phases of the statutory pension insurance system, and adopting a holistic approach to government debt.
