Abstract
The German healthcare system is facing a number of challenges resulting from demographic change, the need for sound financing and efficiency, and the need to reduce bureaucracy and digitalisation. This “Zeitgespräch” will focus on the latest legislative initiatives, including hospital reform, the digitisation act and emergency care reform, which aim to make the system more sustainable, efficient and patient-oriented. Taking into account the complex interactions between political, economic and sociological factors, the articles discuss the extent to which the reforms contribute to high-quality, efficient and affordable healthcare and what conditions need to be created to achieve this.
