Abstract

Czech Idiom Dictionary Set (Similes, Non-verbal idioms, Verbal idioms, Sentential Idioms) is a unique phenomenon in the context of the world phraseology. This work is not only extensive in its scope and depth, but it is highly innovative from the theoretical, metalexicographic and material point of view as well (especially the material of the fourth volume - Sentential Idioms - brings an unexpected and interesting insight into this area). The exhaustive lexicographic, or, rather phraseographic description (semaziological as well as onomasiological) is complemented by F. Čermák's theoretical essays, which form the building blocks of a comprehensive theoretical model of the Czech phraseology. Čermák's view of the idiom stresses extremely restricted collocability and anomalous nature (semantic and/or formal) of its components (manifested both syntagmatically and paradimatically).
