Arabic Diglossia at Works of Academy of the Arabic Language - the first Decade of 21st Century

Abstract

The paper aims at providing analysis of various studies related to the problem of Arabic diglossia. The Arab/Islamic world has suffered from these two variants of the same language for centuries. Perspectives and studies are quite numerous dealing with the aforementioned issue from different points of view. The scope of the paper is limited to the first decade of 21st century solely from the Arab world. It covers studies of the Arab linguists and their respective attitudes towards the subject. Each study was analysed and assessed as against specified criteria. The objective was to provide up-to-date survey of various linguistic approaches to Arabic diglossia.
