Critical Review of Fish Domestication in Aquaculture: Determinants, Processes, and Impacts
Abstract
Domestication in aquaculture is recent and limited to a few species. This study, conducted through a literature review from indexed databases (Scopus, Web of Science) and other relevant sources, is based on a rigorous methodological screening. The analysis defines domestication, addresses its determinism, and discusses the domestication syndrome in relation to genetics, epigenetics, and environmental factors. The effects on fish behavior, reproduction, and life cycle are examined, along with challenges related to farming practices. Finally, the study highlights the impacts of domestication on resilience and ecological interactions.
