Optimizing External-Heating Gasifiers for Enhanced Efficiency: A Synergistic Approach with Taguchi’s Method in Support of Climate Change Mitigation Goals

Abstract

To limit global warming to 1.5 °C and adhere to the Paris Agreement’s targets, urgent action is imperative. The IPCC stresses a 45 % CO2 reduction by 2030 or a 25 % reduction to cap temperature rise at 2 °C, with failure risking greater challenges and costs. Enhancing energy efficiency, particularly through hydrogen utilization, is crucial. Gasifiers offer promise but face efficiency issues, addressed here with external-heating gasifiers leveraging waste heat. This nonlinear problem is optimized using Taguchi’s method, facilitated by COMSOL Multiphysics software. The study contributes to environmental sustainability and carbon reduction efforts, emphasizing the potential of external-heating gasifiers for a sustainable energy future.
