Abstract

In his original study, Phénoménologie de la Rencontre, F. J. Buytendijk develops one of the most admirable phenomenological descriptions around the experience of the encounter. Moving away from all causal explicative models, Buytendijk interrogates the ultimate sense of this manifestation, such as it appears, aiming at its most originary and therefore authentic, essence. The encounter is transfigured as a phenomenon sui generis: it is the expression of our “being” or our “becoming world” by the unity of my body and the other in a single plot or perceptual event.
