Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between religiosity and political participation with Social Awareness as a moderating variable among millennials in Surabaya. This study employed the quantitative approach analysed with Smart PLS 4, which aims to determine the impact of religiosity on Political Participation, and whether Social Awareness intervenes in the effect. In this study, a survey was conducted on 284 respondents. The samples are calculated using the Lemeshow formula because the population size of Christian Millennials in Surabaya is unknown.
The results show that religiosity affects political participation positively and strongly implying that religious people are likely to participate in politics such as voting, endorsing people seeking political office, and engaging in political campaigns. Social Awareness, however, does not moderate the interaction between religiosity and political participation as was expected.
In conclusion, this study contributes to further knowledge of the participation of religiosity and social awareness among Christian millennials in Surabaya. In terms of Christian religiosity, where Social Awareness is concerned, it does not come up as a positive moderating factor, suggesting that a sound understanding of the tenets of a Religion is essential to the level of Political Participation. This raises the prospects of future research that explores how other groups’ religious beliefs in Indonesia may influence their Political Action.
