Abstract

This study analyzes the displacement demands of a 10-story reinforced concrete (RC) building with shear walls, designed according to the P100/81 seismic code. The nonlinear static (pushover) analysis evaluates the structure’s seismic performance, identifying dynamic characteristics, plastic mechanisms, and displacement demands for key limit states: Immediate Occupancy, Life Safety, and Collapse Prevention. Displacement demands are determined by intersecting pushover curves with inelastic spectra, using either Miranda’s method or artificially generated spectra for various mean return intervals (MRI). The results emphasize the importance of displacement demand evaluation to identify vulnerable structural elements and the necessity of retrofitting measures to improve seismic resilience and ensure compliance with modern standards.
