Generation and Visualization of DFN (Discrete Fracture Network) from Rock Mass Discontinuity Sets

Open Access

Abstract

This study aims to generate DFN (Discrete Fracture Network) from Rock Mass discontinuity sets and web-based 3D visualization. By providing accurate modeling of the fractures in the Ornamental Stone Quarry with visualization, it is expected to improve the analysis of discontinuity sets and increase efficiency in industrial processes. Nowadays, analysis of discontinuity sets in stone quarries is usually done with limited visual methods. This study will enable discontinuity sets to be more accurately identified and analyzed in 3D using DFN modeling methods. Thus, it will be possible to plan forward-looking goals such as more effective management of resources in mines, reducing waste and optimizing production processes. The method of this study does not include site studies, geophysical data and laboratory experiments to be conducted in natural stone quarries. It is accepted that detailed analysis was made on the rock samples obtained from the quarries and the geometry, orientation and properties of the cracks were determined. The data is combined using DFN modeling methods and 3D DFN models are created. Sample Data was obtained using a pre-registered database of a Commercial Firm. Additionally, a web-based interactive platform was developed and 3D DFN models were visualized on this platform.
