Gold Mining in Dacia After the Roman Conquest

Open Access

Abstract

The work presents the history of gold mining in Dacia, after the Roman conquest in 106 AD until the Aurelian retreat from 271 – 275 AD. Roman spoils of war from 106 AD are valued by researchers at 165.5 tons of gold and 331 tons of silver. During the 165 years of occupation, the Romans extracted 450 tons of gold and 900 tons of silver. For this, they brought from Hispania and Britannia the most modern gold mining and preparation technologies, which remained unchanged for almost 1500 years.
