In an ever-changing international environment, where international conflicts are evolving at a rapid pace, the culture of mediation as an alternative method of peaceful resolution of international disputes is at the centre of the global agenda, and its role is growing in relation to the diversity of internal and external threats. Flexibility, adaptability, impartiality, economic and temporal components are the main attributes that contribute significantly in the fields of preventive diplomacy, justice, crisis management and conflict prevention, security and defence. Mediation is a priority both in the prevention of conflict escalation and in the reconstruction phase, out of a desire to restore peace while safeguarding freedom, the rule of law and the common heritage.
