Abstract

The use of traps and landmines in military conflicts has its roots in antiquity. The evolution and continuous technological progress, recorded by humanity in all areas of economic and social life, had a special role in the development of new types of explosives with high destructive power, which in turn inevitably determined the diversification and improvement of landmines. Aware of the material damage, but especially of the loss of human life and trauma caused to personnel by landmines, most of the world’s states have agreed to ban their use. However, recent or ongoing military conflicts illustrate a widespread use of landmines. Despite this, the international community must make every effort to ban the use of landmines.
