Abstract
The paper tackles the general problem of language and language communication from an onomasiological point of view. It emphasizes the effectiveness and flexibility of language communication. The paper illustrates the ways how the language is capable of satisfying various communication needs of a speech community. The paper focuses on the systemic relations, intersubjectivity and subjectivity, rationality and emotionality and the principle of language economy, particularly in lexicon and wordformation. Examples are taken from the Slovak language.
