Abstract

The paper presents the results of tests, and an evaluation of sheep leather quality, tanned according to the new chrome-free tanning technology. The leathers were tested for physico-chemical parameters and antimicrobial activity. The tests were performed in accordance with Polish standards. Sheep leathers tanned according to the technology developed were characterized by high durability, health and hygiene parameters. Sheep leather samples protected with a zinc pyrithione formulation, showed effective action against all pathogenic bacteria and fungi used in the study. Anti-decubitus sheets, made of sheep leathers with fleece were tested during use by immobilized people lying for a long time. The sheets were rated as comfortable for the sick in the prevention of bedsores and the formation of other skin lesions.
